Just back from Bloc Part at the Three Arena
Bloc party announced their silent alarm tour several months ago. Silent alarm was there first album and by most it was considered their best. The album was released 10 years ago so this is a tribute to the great album and it is very nostalgic for a lot of people. Tickets were very reasonably priced at just €49.50 but surprisingly it did not sell out. There are several reasons for this in my opinion. Firstly it was on a Monday night which is probably the toughest night to sell tickets to a rock gig. Many people have work the next day and also not many people are that enthusiastic about going to a rock gig on a Monday.
Another reason the gig did not sell out was the age profile. Most Bloc Party fans are now people in their late twenties and early thirties. This is a throw back to their youth for this generation of people but many people this age have kids and just can’t afford or get a baby sitter on a Monday night. I personally knew a lot of people who could not make it who are big Bloc Party fans.
Don’t get me wrong it was quite busy but I would say it was only at about 80% capacity. The Three Arena if of course quite a big venue and considering they have not released an album in a few years I would imagine that they will be happy enough with the turn out. Kele the lead singer referenced the fact that it was a Monday night several times throughout the gig and seemed appreciative of the people who did turn out.
