What a crazy year it has been and a devastating year for many many people in various sectors. Of course the disappointment of music festivals not going ahead pales in comparison to real issues caused by the virus such as people losing jobs, people getting sick and people not being able to travel abroad and see family. However as we are a festival focused website then we will allow ourselves to wallow in the disappointment of no festivals going ahead this year.
Another big issue is what festivals can survive such a year? With deposits for bands being paid out already and the huge amounts of refunds that need to be done, we would be very surprised if there are many festivals happening in the future. Certainly the big few like body and soul and EP should still be around next year but a lot of the up and coming festivals must have been running on very tight margins.
EP are already selling tickets for 2021 but who knows what is in store next year. It was only 6 months ago that the world was normal and now look at how mad everything is. I certainly would not be jumping at any music festival tickets next year until much closer to the date.
Sponsors and bands will be at a minimum and the festivals of old are dead and buried. I am sure a new and safe type of festival will be put in place but it will not be like the fun of old that is for sure. Our own sponsors here www.housetech.ie will be offering beans bags and gaming bags but many sponsors will be pulling out of the festivals for the foreseeable as businesses struggle with the crunch caused by the virus.
Without being too negative lets all hope that something goes ahead next year!
